SAMPLE CDS R COOLby jade: posted 10/22/2023so i was looking on the newer vgm sound sources google sheet which is basically this rlly cool documentation of all the different sound sources used for different video games like super mario 64 n stuff :p u can look up like any game and find some of the instrument sources that were used by the composer(s) for the game. i noticed a lot of games used these things called sample cds and i was like what is that?????? so i tried to download some off of archive.org to see what they were all abtbasically sample cds are the these discs from the 90s/00s made by different music companies like spectrasonics or east west that have a bunch of royalty free loops and instruments on them which composers can use in their music!! at first i thought i was just like cool drum loops but theres this one called advanced orchestra that has all these strings and flutes and oboes it is soooo cool and it sounds kind of realistic too :o check out this demo for it on youtube!! i could download these sample cds but they were either separated wav files that were hard to use or iso files that were labelled "akai"...... i learned from doing some googling that the akai iso files are meant to work with something called an akai sampler.... but ummmmm those look pretty expensive so how can i load these on my computer without having to fork out hundreds of bucks?? <_<; well i did some more googling and u can actually load the iso files in kontakt if u mount the iso file to ur cd/dvd drive which is very epic!!!! in kontakt it shows up as "akai cd" and u can click on it and scroll through all the different sounds..... now i can use the super realistic advanced orchestra :oooo 
heres a list of other cool sample cds i found on the internet: zero-g - datafile: some very funky and epic drum loops in this (one of the loops was used in a clannad BGM!) best service - brass super section: some ppl call this one bad but its so fun to play around with also it was used in a bunch of sonic adventure songs spectrasonics - bizarre guitar: this one is rlly....... edgy and wacky but in a good way!! it was used in the simcity 4 song called oasis which is apprently a stock song used on news programs in some countries....now that i think abt it i can kind of imagine it being played on some weather channel :P spectrasonics - burning grooves: this is probably the first sample cd i downloaded.... the sound is very punchy and reminiscent of fighting games like tekken.... actually it was used in some tekken games i think! spectrasonics - symphony of voices: this has a whole bunch of voice samples that would probably be used in some epic battle music or something XD well those r just some of the sample cds ive downloaded theres tooooooons more. maybe i will make some actual music with them instead of just playing around with them LOOOOOL |
